hockey

On Tuesday we had this man called Brad and he was a hockey player. He was telling us how the game works and he showed us some moves. Then the rain hit, we had to hide under the shelter of a trusty tree. We had this quiz about hockey and it was boys verses girls and of course we one.  We played hockey scramble and that is where you have a ball in the middle of the court and then some players run and try to score a goal. Arlo and Tyreece got the hockey ball stuck under the shed and me and my friend Max had to get them out with a hockey stick. Then Brad said to bring all the balls and sticks back. We did, the hockey games were fun and before we took the sticks back we played rob the nest. That is were all the balls are in the middle and we have to rob the nest and the team with the most balls win.

  1. Have you ever done a tie-dye experiment before?
  2. “Grab the ingredients!” Cassandra exclaimed.
  3. “Get the milk.” I yelled.
  4. Drip drop. Blop blop. Mrs B put the the die in.
  5. Splash. I knocked over the milk.
  6. Have you ever seen dishwashing liquid mixed with milk and food colouring?
  7. Wow. Look at the milk it's so amazing.
  8. Have you ever seen milk perform a dance?
  9. Oooooo aaaaahhhh!!! “look at that.”
  10. Sitting. Waiting. Observing.

Tie-Dyed Milk

Introduction

Liquids like water and milk have a property known as surface tension, due to the cohesive forces of the liquid's molecules. Look closely (you can use a magnifying glass) at the edge of the surface of water in a clear glass. Do you notice how the very edge of the water appears to rise up the side of the glass? That's because the surface tension of the water is actually pulling the water away from the glass inward toward the center of the surface.
Soap will reduce this surface tension. Let's see what happens!

Safety

  • Make sure you have an adult helping you.
  • Do not drink the milk after you have put the food coloring and soap in it!
  • Do this experiment near the sink so that when you're done you don't spill milk and food coloring all over the floor.

Supplies

  • A shallow dish - One that is clear is best, to see what's happening under the surface of the liquid, but a shallow bowl, aluminum pie tin, or plastic or paper bowl will work just fine.
  • Milk - The higher the fat content the better. Half-and-half or whole milk works best.
  • Food coloring - Four different colors will be more colorful.
  • Liquid dish soap.
  • A toothpick or small straw might be helpful, too.

Directions

  1. Pour a layer of milk in the dish about 1/2" (1 cm) deep. Room temperature milk works much better than cold milk, if you have the patience to let it sit for a while.
  2. Carefully put one small drop of each of the four food colors onto the surface of the milk, widely separated, and not in the center of the dish (less is better than more!). Something like this:
  3. Get ready to watch what happens! Very carefully drop one drop of dish soap onto the surface of the milk in the center of the dish. (Be careful not to add the soap directly on top of the food coloring. You may want to dip a toothpick in the dish soap Observations
  • What happens to the food coloring when you first put it on the milk? Why do you think that is?
  • What happens when you add the drop of soap?
  • What direction does the food color move when you first add the drop of soap?
  • What direction does the food color move after the experiment has been running for a while?
  • Does the movement go on forever? What happens?
  • What happens if you add another drop of soap after the colors have stopped moving

When the science experiment has been completed the children will use their Chromebooks to create a piece of procedural  writing using interesting ‘hooks’. These can be any/all of the kinds of hooks we have been learning about.
They include;
*Direct Speech
*Onomatopoeia
*Staccato Sentences
*Rhetorical Questions
Miss D’s Example

  1. “Where are the ingredients?” exclaimed Miss D.
  2. Scurry Scurry went our feet as we get the ingredients.
  3. Equipment out. Ingredients sorted. Bowl ready.
  4. Gurgle gurgle as the milk pours into the bowl.
  5. “Stand back everyone” said Mrs B as she gently DRIP! DROPPED! three colours of food colouring into the bowl.
  6. “Ooooooohh” here comes the dish washing liquid.
  7. WOW! we all shouted as the spiraling effect happened
  1. so that a small drop of soap remains on the end of the toothpick, then touch the drop to the surface of the milk.)

in class we did a tye dye   experiment

for science we were amazed
the milk was a soapy colorful mixer
it looked like it was salty
and I think that the color was not
mean
to be that color it was like a poo brown
we also did the science  to be a good learner for hooks
like the ones above the people in my group were Chelsea  me Brie
and Cassandra

The Holidays With Granddad.
In the holidays I was  at my Granddads and I was cooking  noodles. The gas  hobs were not working so I got the  cooking spray and sprayed the hob, woof!  it flamed up and took half off the hair  on my arm it was gone and it smelt like a singed pig.

My Sister Dyana told me that we were going to rainbows end . “whooooooooooooooo!” I yelled and we went away in the car to Auckland.   The first time and the first ride I have ever been on at rainbows end was the stratosphere. It was crazy it did to ful 360s while spinning around Dyanas boyfriend Charlie  was like AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!  it was insane .

After rainbows end me and Granddad went to sandspit wharf and I was dropping fat manus of the wharf. A school of spats came and I was like bombs away SPlASH!! all the fish were gone and then all the parore were swimming around me so I dived down tried to catch one  but failed miserably.
after that I was driving the barge to Kawau  from Sandspit. I was doing okay until I started heading to the little barer. In the end I made it to Kawau but we were only doing 3.83 knots and its like 4 miles to Kawau it took us ages but we made it in the end .

A bird Flys By

Title:A bird flies by

What I KNOW

That the bald eagle lives in the mountains. That the sparrow lives in the cities and towns.
That the woodpecker lives in  the forest.

What I WANT to know

How the bald eagle lives and what he eats. What mountains do the bald eagles live in. Why does the woodpecker live in the forest. Why do sparrows live in the city.

What I have LEARNED
The the bald eagle lives in the north west coast of America. Woodpeckers are known for tapping on tree trunks in order to find insects.
